The base is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef tallow, rendered in small batches on the DeGroot family's 5-acre ranch in California's Central Valley — the farming region that produces roughly a quarter of the nation's produce. The cattle are raised regeneratively, and the tallow is naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus the same fatty acids your skin already uses to repair itself. That's the reason tallow works when a lot of plant-based creams don't: your skin recognizes the structure.

Around the tallow, Kalos builds a gentle herbal profile. Calendula for skin regeneration and redness. Marshmallow root for its soothing, mucilaginous quality — the same property that makes it a traditional remedy for irritated throats applies, in a different way, to irritated skin. Lavender flower for calming. Vanilla bean for a soft, warm scent that reads as comforting rather than perfumed.
