Thirty-one whole-plant botanicals, every one of them organically grown, every one of them chosen for what it contributes to the system — not for what sounds compelling on a label. The formula begins with a three-month infusion of fresh plants: gotu kola for connective tissue and collagen, calendula for barrier repair and carotenoid support, comfrey for cell regeneration. Those infusions are hand-pressed and then layered with fruit and seed oils — sea buckthorn, pomegranate, rosehip, red raspberry, cranberry, borage, evening primrose — for the essential fatty acids and antioxidants that protect skin from oxidative stress. Finally, a microdose of rare essential oils: white rose, jasmine, frankincense, carrot seed.

What sets this apart isn't the ingredient count. It's the sourcing. Most of the oils are pressed fresh to order, which is nearly unheard of in cosmetics. The frankincense comes from a Somalian-American family who travels to Somalia each year to harvest it themselves. The gotu kola is grown exclusively for Laurel by a nearby farm. The jasmine is hydro-distilled — the only one in the world done this way, as far as they know — to avoid the hexane solvents used in standard jasmine extraction.

All of this matters because antioxidant activity is not stable or consistent. Weather, farming practices, pressing method, handling — every variable along the chain affects what actually ends up in the bottle. Most cosmetic oils are refined for shelf life at the expense of the nutrients that made them worth using in the first place. Laurel's are not. Which is why this serum behaves the way it does: a few drops press into damp skin and disappear, leaving no overpowering essential-oil scent, just the smell of the carrier oils and plant extracts themselves.
